The two-person infrared cabin on the floor at Costco. A fair price for what it is, and a warranty that says lifetime in the headline and much less in the fine print.

The verdict

A plug-in, two-person far-infrared cabin, sold at Costco for $600 to $700 less than the same model number at another dealer. It runs on a standard 120V outlet, which is a real advantage. It tops out at 140°F, the wood is budget hemlock, and the extras (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and colored lights sold as red light therapy) add marketing, not practice. It does not meet the Standard because of the warranty: Golden Designs confirmed to us in writing that the wood structure and glass door carry 1 year, against 5 years on the heater and electronics.

The price, and why it varies

Costco lists it at $1,899.99 online. In warehouses it was $1,799.99 at most locations and $1,899.99 at some, according to a third-party warehouse price tracker on October 15, 2026. Prices change, so check your own warehouse. Online orders ship from the manufacturer in about two to three weeks, curbside only: the driver leaves a 300 pound crate at the end of your driveway, and getting it inside is on you. One dealer lists the same model number, as the Santiago Elite, at $2,499.

Where it wins

No electrician. It plugs into a standard 120V outlet. Some two-person cabins need a dedicated 240V circuit, which can add several hundred to over a thousand dollars before the first session. Read 120V or 240V for why this matters.

Price for the tier. Under $1,900 for a two-person cabin is low, and the Costco price beats the same model elsewhere.

Where it misses

The warranty, and the reason it does not meet the Standard. Golden Designs' warranty page carries a "Limited Lifetime" headline. The text below it says 1 to 5 years. The footnote says 5 years on heating elements and electronics for residential use, 1 year for commercial use, and 1 year on the wood structure. It covers parts only, not labor. You prepay shipping to return a defective part. It is not transferable, and it ends if the sauna moves. Placing it outdoors or modifying it voids it. A lifetime headline over a one-year wood term is the kind of gap we score down, and Golden Designs confirmed to us in writing on October 28, 2026 that these are the terms for this model: 5 years on heating elements and electronics for home use (1 year commercial), and 1 year on the wood structure and glass door.

Heat. It tops out at 140°F. That is normal for far-infrared cabins, which work by warming you directly rather than the air, but it is a gentler session than a traditional sauna. If you want a hot room, read infrared vs. traditional first.

The EMF claim. "Ultra low EMF" is in the name. Costco's page gives no number. One dealer lists under 3 milligauss at 6 to 8 inches from the panels, with no testing lab named. Compare the Sun Home Luminar, whose fields were measured by a named lab with a report available on request. A number without a named test is a claim, not a measurement.

The red light. The in-store poster lists red light therapy at 660nm. It is part of the interior lighting, and no irradiance or distance is published. Without those, we cannot treat it as red light therapy, so it counts as lighting, not a feature.

The wood. Hemlock is common at this price and does the job. It is not the premium wood of the cabins we rate higher.

The evidence behind the practice

Traditional Finnish sauna has the strongest long-term data we cover: in a 20-year study of 2,315 men, more frequent and longer sessions were associated with lower fatal heart disease and all-cause death. That is an association, and it is traditional sauna. Infrared has a smaller evidence base: a randomized trial of 60°C far-infrared sauna in 149 heart-failure patients missed its primary endpoint but improved walking distance and heart size. A 40-study review across both types found mostly positive effects but few randomized trials, most of them small. Sources: Laukkanen 2015; Tei 2016; Hussain and Cohen 2018.

Company basis

Golden Designs factory warranty: 5 years on heating elements and electronics for residential use, 1 year commercial; 1 year on the wood structure; parts only, no labor; owner prepays parts shipping; original purchaser and original site only; outdoor placement and modifications void it. The page headline says "Limited Lifetime" and the text says 1 to 5 years. Read from goldendesigninc.com, checked October 16, 2026. Terms confirmed in writing by Golden Designs on October 28, 2026.

What changed

We held this rating while we asked Golden Designs which warranty terms apply. On October 28, 2026 they confirmed in writing: 5 years on the heater and electronics for home use, and 1 year on the wood structure and glass door. As this page said it would, a one-year term on the cabin itself moves the rating from Held to Does not meet. Company trust scores ●●○○○. If Golden Designs lengthens the wood term, we will rate it again and say what changed.

Who it is for

Costco members who want a two-person infrared cabin under $2,000 that plugs into a normal outlet, and who will keep their receipt. If long coverage matters more than price, the Clearlight Sanctuary 2 also runs on a standard outlet and carries a lifetime residential warranty on the cabin and heaters. It costs more, and we earn nothing on it either.
