The block we would buy, and a useful lesson in reading which products a guarantee covers.

The verdict

The block that does not move. Solid cork, 4 by 6 by 9 inches, 2.2 pounds, stable in every orientation and grippy when your hands are damp. It is heavy and hard, which is the point of cork. The lifetime guarantee covers Manduka's mats only, so the block rides on a 30-day return and the company's record.

Where it wins

Build and Does one job, both at the top mark. A block has one job, to hold still under you, and dense cork does it better than foam. OutdoorGearLab named it their top cork pick, 88 of 100.

Where it misses, and this is the part to read

The guarantee does not cover it. Manduka's lifetime guarantee is for its PRO mats. The block has a 30-day unused return and nothing more, which keeps Company trust at Solid. A solid cork block has little to go wrong, so the gap matters less than it would for a mat.

Availability. It was sold out at manduka.com when we rated it. The Lean version is the same cork in a lighter block.

The Evidence line, same for every product in this lane. Yoga and Pilates have real trial evidence behind them. A Cochrane review of 21 trials and 2,223 people found yoga improved pain and function in chronic low back pain compared with no exercise (Wieland 2022). A Cochrane review of 10 trials found Pilates reduced pain and disability compared with minimal intervention (Yamato 2015). Yoga reduced anxiety across 8 trials (Cramer 2018), and slow breathing raises heart rate variability in the short term (Zaccaro 2018). Effects are modest and many trials are small, so we state them carefully. That is why Evidence sits at Strong for everything in this lane. The lane's Editor's Pick is the JadeYoga Harmony.

Cork, foam or bamboo?

The material decides more about a block than the brand does. OutdoorGearLab scored blocks of all three on the same tests, which makes the trade-offs easy to see.

  • Cork, this block: heavy and firm. They weighed it at 32.7 ounces and gave it 10 out of 10 for stability and 9 for slip resistance, and found cork grips better, not worse, when it gets wet. Comfort scored 7: it is hard under a knee or a sit bone.
  • Foam: light and soft. Their foam blocks weighed between about 4 and 16 ounces and scored best for comfort (Manduka's own foam unBLOK scored 9), but most were less stable, and some turned slick when sweaty.
  • Bamboo or wood: as heavy as cork and very durable, but the least comfortable and the most slippery when wet. Hugger Mugger's bamboo block scored 4 for slip resistance.

Our read: cork if the block takes your weight in standing poses or balances; foam if it mostly supports you sitting or lying down, or travels in a bag; bamboo only for dry, studio-style practice. Source: OutdoorGearLab, best yoga blocks, read October 2026.

Company basis

Not covered by the PRO guarantee; 30-day returns on unused items. Read from Manduka's guarantee and returns pages. Checked September 2026.

Who it is for

Anyone who wants a block that stays put when they lean on it. If weight matters, look at the Lean version.
