The only outdoor cabin we rate, and the one whose real price includes an electrician.

The verdict

The outdoor cabin. Red cedar inside, an aluminum shell and all-weather cover outside, and full-spectrum heaters, with magnetic fields independently measured at 0.5 milligauss. It needs a dedicated 240V circuit and an electrician, and extras like chromotherapy and an oxygen ionizer add price, not practice. Strong coverage on the parts that matter, with a short window for free labor.

What you are buying

A two-person full-spectrum infrared cabin built to live outside. The shell and cover are the point: it goes on a patio or in a yard rather than taking a room in the house.

Where it wins

Company trust, at Strong. Sun Home covers the cabinetry and heaters for life, which are the parts that matter most over years of heat cycles. An independent review scored its customer experience 5 of 5.

The EMF figure is measured, not asserted. Sun Home had electric and magnetic fields tested by Vitatech Electromagnetics in January 2025, and the report is available from the company on request. That is the standard we want every brand to meet.

Where it misses, and this is the part to read

The circuit. It needs a dedicated 240V, 20 amp circuit and a licensed electrician. Budget several hundred to over a thousand dollars of electrical work before the first session, and plan the spot around the run from your panel. Read how to plan a setup first.

The labor window. Labor and shipping are covered only for the first 90 days after delivery. After that you pay both, so the lifetime coverage on cabinetry and heaters is parts only, and Sun Home caps it at seven years, which it calls the expected useful life of those parts. Exterior cabin and controls get three years; LED lighting, glass doors and audio get one. Original purchaser only.

Value, at Solid. Chromotherapy and an oxygen ionizer are extras that add price without adding to the practice.

The outdoor install, in order

An outdoor cabin is a small building project, and the order matters. Each step depends on the one before it. Specs from Sun Home's product page, spec sheet and warranty, read October 2026.

  1. Rules first. Check HOA rules and setbacks, and ask your city whether the electrical work needs a permit. Do this before you pour or buy anything.
  2. Electrician quote. The Luminar needs a dedicated 240V, 20A circuit with GFCI protection and a twist-lock outlet (NEMA L6-20), installed by a licensed electrician. The distance from your panel to the spot drives the price.
  3. The pad. Level, load-bearing and drained, so water never pools at the base. The cabin weighs about 970 pounds empty.
  4. The delivery path. Measure every gate and turn between the truck and the pad before the crates arrive.
  5. Circuit in before delivery, so the cabin can be tested the day it is built.
  6. Test it early. Parts, labor and shipping are covered only in the first 90 days, so run it hard in the first weeks and report anything odd while that coverage lasts.
  7. Plan for winter. It works below 25°F but warms up more slowly. Clear snow from the base and roof: it is not built to carry more than about a foot.

Company basis

Limited lifetime on cabinetry and heaters, capped at seven years (Sun Home calls this the expected useful life of those parts); three years on the exterior cabin and controls; one year on LED lighting, glass doors and audio; labor and shipping covered only for the first 90 days from delivery, after which you pay both; original purchaser only; terms apply to orders on or after March 2, 2026. Read from Sun Home's published warranty page. Checked October 27, 2026.

Updated October 23, 2026. Sun Home's warranty page now says coverage starts at the later of purchase or delivery (delivery within six months), for units bought and installed in the US on or after March 2, 2026. Water exposure voids coverage, and the sauna must sit at least 5 feet from a cold plunge, shower or tub, which matters if you are planning a sauna and plunge setup. The Luminar's cover is optional; skipping it does not void anything.

What voids it

Read from Sun Home's warranty page, Luminar user guide and electrical requirements page, October 2026. The warranty is voided by improper installation, which Sun Home defines to include wrong voltage or no dedicated wall outlet, and by any modification of the sauna. Placing the sauna closer than five feet to a cold plunge, shower, bathtub or hot tub "will automatically void the warranty." Damage from water exposure, weather, animals, insects or chemical cleaners is excluded, and the user guide says leaving snow on the roof can void it too. The included cover is optional, and skipping it does not by itself void coverage. Specially sourced parts can take 60 to 90 days. One conflict to know: Sun Home's electrical page says no surge protectors, while the user guide says to use an outlet with surge protection. Ask Sun Home before you buy one.

Who it is for

Households with outdoor space and a clear run to the electrical panel, who want a cabin for two and would rather keep it out of the house. If you want to avoid an electrician entirely, the Clearlight Sanctuary 2 runs on a standard outlet indoors.
