Almost Heaven Arcadia Review: Costco's 2 Person Barrel Sauna, Rated

The honest entry point to traditional heat at Costco: a 2 person red cedar barrel sauna with a 6 kW Harvia heater, for less than Almost Heaven's own comparable barrel.

How it scores

Five lines, each on the same five-mark scale, never averaged. Read how we rate.

Solid. Red cedar staves in stainless bands, a tempered glass door and a Harvia heater are the right materials for an outdoor barrel. What keeps it at Solid: Costco does not publish stave thickness for this model (Almost Heaven's own barrels are 1 3/8 inch), no roof or cover is included even though Almost Heaven's own manual expects seepage without one, and the single wall carries no insulation, which is normal for barrels. Serviceability is good: the heater is a standard Harvia, so elements and stones are easy to source.

Strong. This is a traditional sauna, the form of heat the Finnish cohort studies are built on. That research is unusually strong for a wellness practice, but it is observational, so we say "associated with", and it does not reach Exceptional on our scale. We make no health claims beyond that.

Strong. It heats a small room to traditional sauna temperatures and does nothing else: no app, no gimmicks. A 6 kW heater is generous for about 100 cubic feet (Harvia's rule is about 1 kW per 35 cubic feet as a minimum), which helps in a cold climate. It misses Exceptional because the 39.25 inch interior length makes it sit-only, and barrel benches leave your feet in the coolest air.

Strong. $2,999.99 to $3,499.99 for a 2 person cedar barrel with a 6 kW Harvia, against $4,485 for Almost Heaven's own Salem 2 Person and $3,499 for Backyard Discovery's 2 to 4 person barrel at Sam's Club (9 kW, 50 A). Add a roof or cover ($337 for Almost Heaven's rain jacket) and the electrician to compare like with like. Costco's return guarantee is a real part of the value on a product this large.

Solid. Almost Heaven publishes a limited lifetime warranty on the sauna room against manufacturing defects, 1 year on heater elements and 5 years on other heater parts. The exclusions are standard for outdoor saunas (weathering, weather events, improper assembly, incorrect electrical connections) and do not lower the score. It is not transferable, covers the contiguous US only, and never covers electrician costs. The page does not say whether labor or shipping is covered, or whether retailer purchases are treated differently; Costco's listing says to contact Costco for warranty information. Support reports summarised by a retailer are mostly positive. Not Strong because of the unstated labor and shipping terms and the 1 year element term.

Where it wins

• Real traditional heat, a Harvia heater and red cedar, for less than Almost Heaven's own 2 person barrel.
• A clear, published lifetime warranty on the room against defects.
• 6 kW in a small room: headroom for cold-climate use.
• Bought at Costco, so the return guarantee and warehouse returns apply.

Where it misses

• No roof or cover in the box. Plan one.
• Sit-only: 39.25 inch interior length.
• Stave thickness and heater model are not published for this Costco model.
• Curbside delivery of a 762 lb load. You need two helpers.
• Bands need re-tightening as the staves dry and swell (Almost Heaven's own guidance, read Oct 21).

What voids the warranty

From Almost Heaven's warranty page, read October 23, 2026, and its heater manual, read October 21, 2026.

• Room: normal weathering and wear and tear, improper use or assembly, weather events.
• Heater: incorrect electrical connections, not following the maker's recommendations, improper stone placement, normal wear and tear, corrosion from salt or hard water used for steam.
• Never covered: electrician costs; second owners (the warranty is limited on transfer of ownership); saunas outside the contiguous US.
• Manual conditions: all electrical work by a qualified, licensed electrician; no GFCI on the heater circuit.

What owners say

We could not read Reddit directly for this rating. Sauna Marketplace, a retailer that sells competing brands, tallied 142 r/Sauna owner verdicts on Almost Heaven as mostly positive. Barrel complaints clustered on rain and seepage, cold feet from low benches, and gaps that bands or filler staves fixed. It reports one Costco barrel owner at 14 years of use, and support reports in that tally were mostly positive. Treat this as tone, not a rating.

Who it suits

• Two people who want traditional heat outdoors and are happy to sit upright.
• Buyers who can add a dedicated 240V, 30 amp circuit with a licensed electrician, and who will budget a roof or cover.
• Anyone who values Costco's return guarantee on a large purchase.
