A 4 person traditional barrel sauna with an 8 kW Harvia Wall heater and a steel roof included. Strong value on paper; held because the maker's warranty contradicts itself.
The verdict
A lot of sauna for the money: four seats, 8 kW, and the roof that most barrels make you buy separately. What we cannot vouch for is the warranty: Golden Designs' outdoor terms contradict themselves, cover parts only, and end if you move the sauna, and Costco's page does not name the wood. We have asked Golden Designs, and we will re-rate on the answer.

Who makes it
- Costco lists the maker model as GDI-B004-02 Elite, brand Dynamic Saunas. Dynamic is a Golden Designs line.
- Golden Designs sells the Arosa 4 Person Barrel Traditional Sauna as GDI-B004-01 on its own site, and Costco Canada sells the Arosa as GDI-B004-01-CA. The shared model number suggests the Alpina is an Arosa variant with a stainless steel roof, but we found no Golden Designs page for GDI-B004-02. Unverified; we have asked Golden Designs.
- The published specs do not all match. Golden Designs lists the Arosa at 477 lb assembled with a 6 kW stove (8 kW optional); Costco lists the Alpina at 500 lb with an 8 kW Harvia Wall. We do not borrow Arosa dimensions here until the maker confirms the match.

How it scores
Five lines, each on the same five-mark scale, never averaged. Read how we rate.
Build: Solid
●●●○○The parts list is right for outdoors: a stainless steel roof (which also meets Golden Designs' warranty condition for a cover), a Harvia Wall heater, and tempered glass. Two gaps keep it from Strong and nearly pull it to Adequate: Costco does not name the wood species or stave thickness, and does not publish dimensions. If Golden Designs confirms Pacific cedar as on the Arosa, Build stays Solid; if it cannot name the wood, Build drops to Adequate.
Evidence: Strong
●●●●○A traditional sauna, the form of heat the Finnish cohort studies are built on. That research is strong but observational, so we say "associated with", and it does not reach Exceptional on our scale.
One job: Strong
●●●●○A 4 person traditional sauna with an 8 kW heater. Accent lighting and an LED panel are minor extras, not features that justify the price. Costco calls it a "steam" sauna, which is just its category label for traditional saunas.
Value: Strong
●●●●○$3,999.99 for 4 seats, 8 kW and a roof included. For comparison: Golden Designs lists the Arosa at $7,999 on its own site (sold out) and a dealer lists it at $5,999; Almost Heaven's Pinnacle 4 person is $6,060 on sale without a roof; Backyard Discovery's 4 to 6 person barrel with porch is $5,499 at Sam's Club. Not Exceptional while the wood and dimensions are unpublished.
Company: Adequate
●●○○○Golden Designs' hybrid and outdoor warranty page says the room is covered "for the life of the product" in the main text, and its footnote limits the wood structure, controls, harnesses and lights to 5 years. It covers parts only, no labor; the owner pays shipping both ways; coverage is for the original purchaser at the original site and ends on relocation. The heater is "covered by its own manufacturer warranty", with no term stated. The page applies to "products sold under the Golden Designs brand", and the Alpina is sold as Dynamic. Golden Designs' separate factory warranty (for indoor products) says outdoor placement voids it, so a buyer cannot tell from published pages which terms apply. A Golden Designs manual for its hybrid saunas also requires registration within 60 days; we could not find whether that applies here. Golden Designs has not answered the questions we sent on October 16. Under the Standard, unclear terms lower Company one mark, from Solid to Adequate.
Why it is Held
Held means promising, not yet featured: the support record is one we cannot vouch for, or we have not finished checking. Here it is the warranty. The terms contradict themselves (lifetime in one place, 5 years on the wood in another), they name only the Golden Designs brand, and Golden Designs has not answered since October 16. It is the same pattern as the Dynamic Tuscany Elite, where Golden Designs has since confirmed a 1-year wood term, so it now does not meet the Standard. We will re-rate when Golden Designs answers.
Where it wins
- Stainless steel roof included, which most barrels sell separately.
- 8 kW Harvia Wall for 4 seats.
- The lowest price we have seen for a 4 person barrel with a roof.
- Costco's return guarantee.
Where it misses
- Warranty terms contradict themselves and may not cover a Dynamic-branded product. This is the reason for Held.
- Parts only; the owner pays shipping both ways; coverage ends if the sauna moves.
- Heater warranty term not stated.
- Wood species, stave thickness and dimensions not published on Costco.
- Zero Costco reviews, and no owner reports found for this model.
- Curbside delivery of a 500 lb load.
What voids the warranty
From Golden Designs' hybrid and outdoor warranty page, read October 23, 2026.
- Any modification to the sauna or its components.
- Altered or forged proof of purchase; a defaced or removed serial number.
- Not covered: full commercial use, negligence, misuse, abuse, repairs by non-authorized people, inappropriate installation, lacquer or paint used improperly, placement on non-approved surfaces.
- Not covered: outdoor use without weather protection, including the glass door; weather damage if not properly maintained; normal wear, weathering, moisture or water seepage; surface cracks and wood expansion or contraction.
- Ends on: the time limit, transfer of ownership, or relocation.
- Condition: a waterproof cover or the roof panel must be installed. The Alpina's steel roof should meet this; we have asked Golden Designs to confirm.
- Possible condition: registration within 60 days of purchase (in a Golden Designs hybrid sauna manual; not confirmed for this model).
What owners say
None found for the Alpina: Costco shows 0 reviews, and we found no Reddit or forum threads naming it (we could not read Reddit directly for this rating). For the brand, Peak Saunas, a competitor, rates Dynamic customer service 3.5 of 5, partly because contact details differ across the brand's websites. We saw the same: the warranty page gives one phone number (909 area code) and a dealer article gives another (360). Treat this as context, not evidence about this sauna.
Who it suits
- Four people who want traditional heat outdoors, with the roof already in the box.
- Buyers who can add a 240V, 40 amp circuit with a licensed electrician.
- Buyers comfortable relying on Costco's return guarantee while the maker's warranty terms are unclear.
If a clear, published warranty matters most to you, read our Almost Heaven Arcadia barrel sauna rating (Costco, 2 person, Meets the Standard), and see our barrel sauna guide and outdoor sauna guide.
