The Modern Recovery is reader-supported. We rate products from public evidence: listings, manuals, warranty terms and owner reports. We do not run hands-on tests. This page carries no affiliate links, so we earn nothing from it.
A popular cheaper model, rated as a benchmark. We cover premium recovery gear, and we rate a few budget saunas like this one so you can see what the extra money buys. For the sauna we would put in our own home, see our Editor's Pick.

Short answer: The Rylan is a 2 person cedar indoor infrared sauna with 8 carbon far infrared panels, red and near-infrared lights, and color lighting, sold at Sam's Club for $1,999 to $2,199 when we checked.1,3 It plugs into a standard 120V outlet, and the maker recommends a dedicated 15 amp circuit.3 The maker puts a 5-year warranty on every component, which is long at this price.3 Two things to know: infrared heat has a smaller research base than a traditional sauna, and the red light panel comes with no published output figures.

The verdict

The best warranty we have seen on a 2 person infrared cabin at this price, from a maker that sells through Sam's Club, Walmart and Lowe's. It clears the bar on every line. The red light feature is a reason to be cautious, not a reason to buy, because Backyard Discovery publishes wavelengths but no power or distance.

How it scores

Build and materials

●●●○○

Solid. Cedar, double-wall panels and eight carbon heaters on an ordinary 120V circuit are a sound indoor build.3 Owners describe the boards as sturdy and the assembly as straightforward.5 It stays at Solid because the maker publishes a relative claim ("33% thicker") but no actual thickness, no heater wattage and no inside dimensions, and because the safety listing is not on the product record we could read.3

Evidence for the practice

●●●●○

Strong. Sauna research is real, but most of the strong long-term evidence comes from traditional saunas, and infrared cabins run cooler. We score infrared cabins at Strong and say plainly that this form of heat has a smaller evidence base than the tradition it borrows from.7 This line rates the practice, not the red light feature.

Does one job, honestly

●●●○○

Solid. The sauna itself does its job: owners report it heats quickly to about 140°F.5 The red light marketing pulls this line down. Backyard Discovery names the wavelengths (660 nm and 850 nm) but publishes no irradiance, no measuring distance and no LED count.3 Our Standard treats red light figures without a stated distance and measuring party as meaningless, so we give the panel no credit.7 Color lighting and speakers are extras, not reasons to buy.

Value for its tier

●●●●○

Strong. $1,999 to $2,199 for a 2 person cedar cabin with a 5-year warranty on every component.1,3 For comparison, Home Depot's Maxxus Aspen 2 person is $2,149 with a warranty its own listing states two ways, and SteamSpa's 2 person is $1,624.99 with one year on electrical parts.8 Costco's Dynamic Veneto Elite is $1,999.99 for one person.9 No new circuit is needed if you have a free 15 amp one.

Company trust

●●●○○

Solid. The maker's product record says the Rylan carries a 5-year warranty covering every component.3 Backyard Discovery's indoor sauna warranty page, read October 27, 2026, confirms it: the cedar structure and glass door, every carbon far infrared panel, the red light panel (660 nm and 850 nm) and chromotherapy, the controls and both speakers, with the part and the shipping free on approved claims and parts shipped within 48 business hours of approval. Labor is never covered, but the panels use push-in connectors so owners can swap parts themselves.6 Not Strong because labor is excluded and Backyard Discovery's sauna record is short (a competitor dates its entry to November 2025).6

What voids it

  • Labor is never covered: the warranty pays for parts and shipping only.
  • Outdoor use, including covered patios, screened porches and sheds, voids the warranty. A garage protected from moisture is fine.
  • Extension cords, power strips and adapters: damage from using them is not covered. Plug into a dedicated wall outlet (120V for the 1 and 2 person models).
  • Damage caused by improper electrical installation is excluded. Doing the electrical yourself does not void the warranty, per the maker.
  • Misuse, or assembly that does not follow the instructions. Normal color change of the cedar and cosmetic scratches are not treated as defects.
  • Original purchaser only: the warranty does not transfer. Valid in the US and Canada. No registration step is mentioned.

Where it wins

  • 5 years on every component, including the heaters, at about $2,000.
  • Plugs into a standard 120V outlet on a dedicated 15 amp circuit. No 240V run.
  • Owner-swappable parts, per the maker as summarized by a competitor.
  • Strong customer ratings at Sam's Club, with club pickup available.

Where it misses

  • Red light panel with wavelengths only: no power, no distance, no LED count.
  • No published panel thickness, heater wattage, inside size or top temperature.
  • Labor is not covered under the warranty.
  • A newer sauna maker, with little long-term ownership history.

What owners report (our summary)

We could not open Reddit from our reader. The Sam's Club reviews we could read are uniformly positive: fast heat-up, sturdy boards, easy assembly, and about 140°F after half an hour. Every one we could see was labelled as coming from backyarddiscovery.com, and none described a warranty claim, so we read them as tone rather than a support record.5

Who it is for

Someone who wants an indoor 2 person infrared cabin on ordinary household power, values a long warranty over a long brand history, and buys it for the heat, not the red light.

Heat puts real load on the heart. If you have a heart condition or blood pressure problems, are pregnant, or take medication affecting either, talk to your doctor before starting. Have an electrician confirm the circuit is dedicated before you plug in.
