A popular cheaper model, rated as a benchmark. We cover premium recovery gear, and we rate a few budget saunas like this one so you can see what the extra money buys. For the sauna we would put in our own home, see our Editor's Pick.

Short answer: This is a 2 person hemlock indoor infrared sauna with carbon far infrared panels, sold under the SteamSpa and SaunaSpa names at Home Depot ($1,624.99) and Lowe's.1 It is the cheapest of the 2 person cabins we rate, and customers rate it well. We hold it because the manual gives a one-year limited warranty that is not recognized unless you register within 90 days of delivery, while the retail listings advertise five years on the wood.1,2 Also check your circuit: the listing says 120V, but the manual asks for a dedicated 20 amp circuit, which many rooms do not have.2

The verdict

A low price for a real 2 person cabin that reaches a usable 149°F, with good customer ratings. The listing and the manual tell different stories on the warranty and on power, and a warranty that lapses if you miss a 90-day registration is the kind of term we cannot score as Solid.

How it scores

Build and materials

●●●○○

Solid, at the low edge. Hemlock, carbon panels and a listed ETL mark are standard for a budget indoor cabin.1 Against it: the panel count is not published, the listing contradicts itself on depth and on what is in the box, the ETL claim is not repeated in the manual, and the power requirement in the manual (dedicated 20 amp circuit) is missing from the listing.1,2 Owner reports include parts that needed a hammer to fit and two units that arrived damaged.1

Evidence for the practice

●●●●○

Strong. Sauna research is real, but most of the strong long-term evidence comes from traditional saunas, which run hotter than this cabin. We score infrared cabins at Strong and say plainly that this form of heat has a smaller evidence base than the tradition it borrows from.7

Does one job, honestly

●●●○○

Solid. A published 149°F top temperature is higher than some plug-in cabins we have looked at, which helps.1 The extras pull it down: an "oxygen ionizer" with no stated purpose or evidence, a color lamp and a speaker are features that sell a price, not a sauna.1 There is no red light claim on this model.1

Value for its tier

●●●○○

Solid. At $1,499.99 to $1,624.99 it is the cheapest 2 person cabin we rate.1,5 But Sam's Club's Backyard Discovery Rylan is about $375 more with five years on every component, against one year here, and if your room lacks a free 20 amp circuit, the electrician narrows the gap further.2,8

Company trust

●●○○○

Adequate. The product manual gives a one-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, against manufacturer defects and malfunctions, and says it is not recognized unless you register online or by mail within 90 days of delivery.2 Home Depot's highlights advertise five years on wood and one year on electrical parts, while its spec table says one year; Lowe's lists the same 5 and 1 split for this model on its own listing (read October 27, 2026).1,6 The manual points to SteamSpa's website for the full terms, which we could not open on October 23 or again on October 27, 2026.2 A mandatory 90-day registration is an onerous condition, the documents disagree on the term, and two owners describe waits of a month or more for parts.1,4 Under our Standard that is Adequate, and it is the reason for Held.

What voids it

From the SC-SS0008 product manual.2 The full terms on SteamSpa's website may add more.

  • Not registering within 90 days of delivery, online or by mail: the warranty is not recognized.
  • Malfunctions, damage, parts and labor caused by improper installation, negligence, or lack of care and maintenance.
  • Self-installation or installation that does not follow the manual.
  • Indoor use only, per the manual.

Where it wins

  • Lowest price of the 2 person cabins we rate.
  • Published top temperature of 149°F.
  • Good customer ratings at Home Depot (4.7 on 91).
  • Home Depot's 90-day return window.

Where it misses

  • One-year limited warranty in the manual, void without registration within 90 days (the reason for Held).
  • Listing and manual disagree on warranty, power and contents.
  • Needs a dedicated 20 amp circuit per the manual; the listing does not say so.
  • Reports of damaged deliveries and slow replacement parts.

What owners report (our summary)

We could not open Reddit from our reader. Most Home Depot reviews are positive. The critical ones describe a build of nearly six hours with upside-down brackets and panels that needed a hammer, a 20 amp circuit that required an electrician, and two units that arrived damaged, one waiting over a month for a replacement panel.1 A reviewer of a sibling SaunaSpa model on another retailer's site describes months of waiting for a simple part.4 Treat this as tone, not a rating.

Who it is for

A buyer on a firm budget who already has a free 20 amp circuit, will register the warranty the week it arrives, and will inspect the delivery before signing for it.

Heat puts real load on the heart. If you have a heart condition or blood pressure problems, are pregnant, or take medication affecting either, talk to your doctor before starting. Have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit, as the manual recommends.
